After a long career as a school superintendent and university professor, my husband and I retired to beautiful Sonoma County. Travel to various countries and the opportunity to view some of the worlds great art have always been an interest and inspiration. Semi-retirement has given me the opportunity to learn and explore the possibility that creating art could be within my grasp.
I have been fortunate to study with wonderful teachers both locally and nationally known. They have included Phyllis Rapp, Judy Greenberg, Han Kunz, Ron Ranson, Lian Zhen, Wendy Mattson and Don Andrews. My initial medium of watercolor is still primary, as I love the fluid and sometimes unexpected results which are produced. Recently, I spent a week studying plein air pastel painting with Richard McDaniel. This experience prompted a new series of work in pastels where the colors speak in a different way.
WASCO has provided me with an artistic home and numerous personal and professional contacts which have enriched my life. I was pleased to serve as its President for two years and am honored to have received two awards at the Aqua Areas Show:
- 2005 Lida Nicholson Memorial Award for “Ménage a Trois”
- 2008 People’s Choice Award for “Morning Mist”
My work may be seen at the Upstairs Gallery, 306 Center Street, Healdsburg, (707) 431-4214 or by individual appointment.
